About Us

What We Do

The Officiant Office of New Orleans was created to help you fashion a wonderful wedding ceremony that meets your needs - from simple to elaborate…traditional to unusual. We have seen it all…and we embrace it!

Officiant Office - Pirates Alley, French Quarter

As New Orleans civil wedding officiants, our first task is to insure that the ceremony is performed legally. After that, we can be more or less involved as you see fit. Most importantly, we want the couple to be the stars of the show.

Creating and writing wedding ceremonies is our specialty. Working with our couples, we help expresses the love and joy one of life’s most significant moments. If you are in need of advice on what to say and the sequence of the ceremony, we are there for you.

The ceremony can be anything from a basic exchange of vows to more time-honored ceremony to an elaborate New Orleans fantasy. The choice is yours.

We are very proud of the diversity of our couples. We celebrate love between two committed people. No judgments, no strings. All are welcome.

How We Do It

Our initial conversation will establish whether or not we have the date and time free for your ceremony. We then determine the right officiant to fit your needs. Depending on the type of ceremony, we might schedule a further meeting to begin to design your ceremony.

Some couples simply want a ceremony - nothing more, nothing less. That can be done anywhere: in the privacy of a home…in our office…or in the wonderful public places available in New Orleans.

Other couples may want a more elaborate ceremony to mark the occasion. The locations have ranged from hotels to museums - to a even a barn! We are game for most anything.

Should you need our help in crafting your wedding ceremony, we will spend as much time as you need to perfect it. You can leave it all to us or be more active in the writing process. We are happy to work in either capacity. After all, it is your special day.

The ceremony itself is the most important part of the whole process and our goal is to be there at least 30 minutes before. The legal necessities of the ceremony include solemnizing by declaring the marriage official and legal and making sure the certificate is property signed and witnessed.

Keep in mind that we are not wedding planners but ceremony consultants and officiants. There are some excellent wedding planners in the New Orleans areas if you need help with details like bridal gowns, flowers, lodging or paid venues.  We excel at the details of the ceremony - and we can offer some guidance on public venues that have might work well.

Who We Are

CDU Tiffany and Beau - untouched 2.jpg

The Officiant Office was founded by Charles Urstadt when it became clear to him that couples were having difficulty finding local judges in New Orleans willing to perform civil wedding ceremonies. Many couples do not want religion included in their wedding ceremony. Some are not particularly religious…some couples have different spiritual beliefs from each other…and many have no religious beliefs at all. Non-religious or secular wedding ceremonies are our specialty.

We are registered Officiants in New Orleans, Orleans Parish and surrounding parishes fully complying with Louisiana wedding officiant laws. The Officiant Office is not a governmental agency but a locally-owned private service always available to help create and preform wedding ceremonies.

It is with a great deal of pride and love that we perform our weddings. As professionals and having dealt with many well-known people, you should know that your privacy is important to us.

Helping to create a meaningful wedding ceremony that represents the love of the couple is something we excel at. Composing the words and elements of a wedding ceremony is an art that we have taken the time to learn. We want you to benefit from our experience.

We would appreciate the opportunity to talk with you about your plans for this happy occasion.

The Officiant Office is proud to be a member of several important organizations. To learn more about any one of them, click on the logo below to be taken to our listing on their website.
